We are delighted to welcome the Maniriho family to Erie, marking the beginning of their new chapter in the United States. After fleeing violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and enduring significant challenges in a Ugandan refugee camp, the Manirihos have arrived in Erie seeking a fresh start.
Their journey has been marked by hardship, including food scarcity and severe health issues for their youngest child, Asha. However, thanks to the dedicated efforts of Catholic Charities Refugee Resettlement Services, Erie has become a beacon of hope for the Maniriho family.
The support they have received—ranging from affordable housing and nutritious food to quality healthcare—has profoundly impacted their lives. Leslie, who once faced serious health issues, is now thriving, a powerful testament to the transformative effect of these services.
The Maniriho family's arrival has been met with warmth and community spirit. They have been embraced by their new neighbors and have begun to experience the joys of their new home. Recently, they enjoyed thier first Independence Day in Erie, USA. The day was filled with lawn games, friendly interactions, and a festive atmosphere. As night fell, they watched a fireworks display, their hearts filled with wonder and gratitude.
For Frederick, Tasiayene, Kelsee, Leslee, and Dercy Maniriho, this new chapter is more than a relocation; it represents a journey to freedom and the promise of a brighter future. The warm welcome from the Erie community and the steadfast support from Catholic Charities have made this new beginning possible.
